About ScottMadden Management Consultants

ScottMadden is a management consulting firm that operates in two main areas: Energy and Corporate and Shared Services. While it is best known for its work in the energy industry, the firm's Corporate & Shared Services practice works across many industries with clients in entertainment, healthcare, manufacturing, high tech/communications, retail, and higher education.

Founded in 1983, the firm is headquartered in Atlanta, GA with additional offices in Raleigh, NC and Westborough, MA. From these locations, the firm works on projects for clients all over the world, albeit with a strong concentration of work in North America.

Putting the Scott in ScottMadden

The firm was founded by utility industry executive Peter Scott, whose first client also happened to be the utility where he had previously worked. According to the firm, Scott partnered with the client and became a long-term advisor, setting a model for client engagement - including a focus on long-term results - by which ScottMadden operates today. Indeed, the firm continues to support that first client still.

Since 2000, the firm has been led by current CEO and President Brad Kitchens, who has more than 25 years of experience in business and consulting. A former employee of Deloitte & Touche, Kitchens' pre-ScottMadden resume includes stints in Deloitte's capital markets practice, as well as several years in the oil and gas industry.

No cookie cutters allowed

According to the firm's website, ScottMadden's differentiation within the consulting industry comes from its willingness to create long-term partnerships with its clients and to personalize its work based on each client's specific needs. Indeed, that commitment to meeting needs is what led the firm to expand its practice areas beyond energy in the early 2000s, thereby moving away from being a niche practitioner and toward the role of a general management consulting provider.

Across our Energy and Corporate & Shared Services practice areas, we deliver a broad array of consulting services, ranging from strategic planning through implementation to improving operations, all led by the vision of our partners and the capabilities of our consultants.

We take pride in our close-knit, collaborative culture which is what differentiates us from other firms. It’s no wonder we are continually recognized as a top-ranked consulting firm and place to work by Vault, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and Forbes Media, among others.

At ScottMadden, we are committed to corporate responsibility and all of its facets, including our people and community, our planet, and our governance as a firm. We are proud of what we have accomplished to date but recognize there is considerable work ahead. In 2020, we released our first Corporate Responsibility Report , which highlights the firm’s commitment to the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues that are most important to our stakeholders. Not only does ScottMadden ensure that our work in these areas align with the expectations of our internal and external stakeholders, we involve our stakeholders in the process to make a difference together. An example of this includes our firm’s carbon-neutral goal. For the third year in a row, ScottMadden’s Carbon Offsets Matching Program will allow employees and the firm to work together to offset carbon emissions related to travel and business operations. As we look ahead, ScottMadden strives to address new and increasingly complex ESG issues alongside our employees and stakeholders.

ScottMadden recognizes and values the uniqueness of each of our employees. The differences in our backgrounds, experiences, styles, and perspectives are part of what makes our firm exceptional, and we are committed to building and sustaining an environment that is diverse, collaborative, supportive, and fosters mutual respect and trust (for one another and our clients). Driving positive change is at the core of ScottMadden’s business, from the work that we do with our clients to the impact that our employees have in their communities through company-sponsored events and personal outreach efforts. Our “Spotlight” employees demonstrate both our diverse workforce and the varied interests and involvement of our employees.

Career development is important at ScottMadden. Each year, consultants meet with their assigned sponsor to create a detailed personal development plan. On the first Friday of every month, sessions are held in all ScottMadden offices to discuss current industry topics or best-practice consulting techniques. In addition, more formal training for each consultant level is provided. To further our ongoing commitment to building the skillsets of our people, we offer LinkedIn Learning training courses, which can be customized to your interests and developmental goals, and monthly small group discussions with relevant presentations on topics of interest.
