“An Objectively Great School”
April 2018CURRENT STUDENT
Uppers

The law school is in a great new building with great facilities. There are interesting events and speakers, including Supreme Court justices. Fordham also hires well into big law.

Downers

While personal to the individual, I think many feel a relative insecurity in being at Fordham Law rather than a higher ranked university. This feeling may be heightened by, if not entirely drawn from, the fact that NYU and Columbia are situated so closely nearby.

Comments

If you want to work in NY, especially in big law, Fordham Law is great.

“Collegial School with Great Alumni Network in Heart of NYC”

Great professors, student organizations, fun events, awesome location, very collegial environment

Downers

NYC in general and Fordham in particular are very expensive. The school also doesn't have the same name recognition as other top law schools, particularly outside the NY market.

Comments

If your plan is to stay in NYC and you get a scholarship, you really can't do better than Fordham.

“Amazing school with a friendly culture”

The people- everyone is willing to help each other excel

The professors- everyone is so well educated and approachable

The location- right by Lincoln Center- it does not get better than that

Downers

The lack of diversity overall. While there is a good balance between females and males... there are not many cultures reflected in the student body.

Comments

If you are looking for a competitive environment with friendly people and extremely intelligent professors- this place is perfect for you.

“Fordham Law”

Uppers

Excellent professors, excellent career opportunities, first class facilities, and excellent library resources

Downers

Many interesting courses are taught in the evenings, which is sometimes inconvenient and many of the best classes had overlapping time

Comments

Fordham is a great place to go to school, but understand that it is a NYC-based school and will not provide you with geographic mobility from a job perspective

“Great NYC experience”

Tons of night classes taught by adjuncts who practice what they teach during the day.

Located in the heart of NYC. Alumni connectivity in the city is very strong.

Downers

Expensive but so are so many other NYC law schools. Otherwise hard to complain about specific school downers, the negatives are the same at every law school.

Comments

If you want to live/work in NYC, Fordham is a great school. A lot of adjunct professors means meeting a lot of current practitioners. Gear towards preparing you for life as a real lawyer as opposed to a bunch of theoretical law school classes.

Great professors who are caring and engaging. They want you to learn the law and to enjoy doing so.

Downers

Lots of students are young and come straight from college.

Comments

It's a great place with a large alumni network in NYC.

First year classes focus more on Socratic Method, Second and Third Year classes are much more skills oriented

Quality of Life

Cost of living is very good in the area, especially for NYC

Facilites are more than adequate and they have begun construction on a new law building that looks amazing

Computer labs are always accessible and working

Neighborhood is safe and a great place to be for the school and for a social life

Admissions

Fairly smooth admissions process, they also have a pre orientation class for those that may need it

Admissions

There are merit scholarships available, but most students probably didn't receive them. Nothing particular stands out about the application process - the application tracker was a good tool, but mailings were sometimes received later than expected.
