Location, faculty was knowledgeable and relevant, new facilities. Location, location, location.

Downers

No very collegial. So many other law schools in the region, FLS is often an after-thought.

Comments

If Columbia, NYU and Cornel are out, and you want to be in NYC, FLS is a decent option. But be sure to graduate high in your class.

“Genuinely Good School”

Being taught by actual legal professionals is a major upside- and the purely academic professors aren't too bad either.

Downers

The lack of schedule choice for year one is terrible.

Comments

Bear in mind that prices will increase on you but scholarship amounts remain the same.

The curriculum definitely prepares students for the practice of law. In the same vein, there are some absolutely fantastic professors.

Downers

The career office is borderline useless; they can't be bothered to help any students find jobs. The administration also sucks.

Comments

Keep in mind that Fordham does decently well at biglaw placement in NYC, but isn't on par with NYU or Columbia. Only the top of the class gets biglaw positions.

“Fordham is a better choice”

Great professors who have actual legal work experience and teach real world materials.

Downers

The course offerings do not include practice areas geared towards a big law career.

Comments

The night program is top quality and allows working students to graduate from a high caliber school while still working.

Access to all the highest regarded law firms in the country. Great alumni network. Evening division.

Downers

Administration is a nightmare. Impossible to speak with someone that can actually help if there is a problem.

Comments

Disproportionate number of alumni that are or have been federal or state judges. The school attracts people that work harder than most and that give back.

Classmates are generally a pleasure. Some professors are very invested in seeing students succeed and put in a great effort.

Downers

Some professors are just phoning it in, not interested at all. Also job prospects are not great.

Comments

Cost of living and tuition are very high and the administration is quite stingy.

“Very good school for the top”

There are excellent job opportunities for the top 25% of the class.

Downers

Administration is not concerned with what any student thinks and makes things as difficult as possible.

Comments

If you are taking loans, make sure to be in the top of your class.

Academics

The quality of the academics is impressive. Many of the professors have practiced in the areas that they teach, so we really get a good understanding of the topic.

Quality of Life

Tuition doesn't really make sense, but very few schools are reasonable in this aspect. The dining facilities are also subpar, frequently failing health code inspections. Other than that, everything is just as I would expect it to be.

Admissions

Basically the same as all of the other schools, no obvious differences.

Fordham does a nice job of coupling the theoretical underpinnings of the law with practical application of relevant skills. In addition to using the Socratic method (particularly during 1L), the school has a wide range of opportunities (e.g., extra curricular activities, study abroad programs, externships, clinics, etc.) that are useful and challenging. The atmosphere is more collegial than competitive, but students still try to do the best that they can do. The school would be well served to provide better academic advising.

Quality of Life

New York City is expensive, but it is worth it for the Fordham experience. The law school is in a great location--on the Upper West Side near Lincoln Center and a growing academic area that also includes Julliard and John Jay. Perhaps most importantly, Fordham is building a new school, adjacent to the current law school, that is schedule to open in the fall of 2014 to replace the current facilities, which leave much to be desired.
