The intellectual leadership of the faculty is unmatched, and the focus on undergraduate education makes this the premier college experience. The student body is a diverse, brilliant, dynamic community. Amazing!
DownersThe university bureaucracy has at times been out of touch with the student body, so more direct responses to student concerns would be welcome.
CommentsNew Haven is a beautiful, historic community that has urban blessings and curses. It's important to visit -- the campus is incredibly green while providing access in close proximity to NYC and Boston.

Some really great, inspiring professors. Residential college system is tremendous, with amazing benefits and resources available. You will meet a lot of really smart people.
DownersMany classes are taught by disinterested (read: research-oriented) professors or, in the case of many math courses, graduate students who can't speak English, much less teach effectively. There is definite tension between Yale and New Haven, although as an undergrad you are mostly insulated from it.
CommentsHonestly, the education is likely similar to that you would receive at another top-notch institution. But you will meet incredibly talented individuals, and these students will be more diverse than at other schools.

The incredible campus, the fantastic faculty and course offerings and the brilliant student body.
DownersThe attention of the faculty on undergrads could have been stronger.
CommentsI had an incredible experience. Living in a smaller city/community allowed me to focus on meeting smart people and exploring tons of ideas and activities.

A relatively small class size, which allows extensive interaction with the professors.
DownersAwkward geographical location between Boston and New York, which limits interactions with other colleges and institutions.
CommentsThe engineering program is small, but it feels like the school is investing a lot of money into the program, which makes the program good.

Vibrant on-campus atmosphere, very good, engaged and approachable faculty. Career opportunities are fantastic and the alumni base is very helpful.
DownersThe school's location in New Haven leaves much to be desired, but this is partially offset by the proximity to NYC.
CommentsYale is a great school with very down-to-earth individuals. For all its negatives, New Haven really does foster a vibrant on-campus atmosphere where people from all walks of life (and with all types of interests) can thrive.

Engaging professors
Great resources for extra help
Relatively good social scene
DownersNew Haven is a sketchy city
Science, engineering, and math departments are lacking in quality teachers and career opportunities
CommentsIf you want to do consulting, finance, or public sector this is the place for you. As an engineer though, knowing what I know, I may have reconsidered
