Founded in 2008, Airbnb was created to help travelers spend time "living" in the places they travel to rather than simply visiting. Unlike generic hotel accommodations, Airbnb lets travelers book homes from local "hosts" using a simple interface that can be accessed online or from a mobile phone or tablet. The company's goal is to help the user experience a destination as a person would if they actually lived there while also providing an easy way for homeowners to monetize their extra space. Rentals range from a modest apartment for a single night, to a castle for a week, all the way up to a villa for a month. The renter and the homeowner than rate each other based on the experience. Airbnb has seen steady growth and now operates in more than 34,000 cities and 190 countries around the world.
With its continued growth, Airbnb offers a number of exciting career opportunities, along with various internship programs. Those who are successful in getting into the program are called Airterns.
As part of the program, Airterns receive competitive pay, a generous housing bonus, and Paid Time Off; quarterly employee travel coupons so you can explore Airbnb’s incredible listings; daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner inspired by the local cuisine of listings from around the world; company-sponsored tech talks and social events, among other perks.
The following is an internship program we highlighted for our users:

This particular internship is different in that the Seattle team is a startup within a startup. They build applications for thousands of Airbnb employees around the world and own everything related to operationalizing Airbnb to keep it running as a marketplace. The team takes on the unique opportunity of interfacing directly with stakeholders around the company to build full stack applications with an array of technologies. In fact, the team codes with some of the newest and most diverse set of technologies within Airbnb from Node.js for real time chat and notifications, to Ruby on Rails for customer resolutions, to React.js for user tickets, to Elastic Search for full text user searching.
