LinkedIn operates an online professional network designed to help members find jobs, connect with other professionals, and locate business opportunities. The site has grown to reach more than 430 million users in some 200 countries since its launch in 2003. LinkedIn is free to join; it offers a paid premium membership with additional tools and sells advertising. It additionally earns revenue through its job listing service, which allows companies to post job openings and search for candidates on LinkedIn. In 2016, Microsoft agreed to pay $26.2 billion to acquire LinkedIn.
An internship at LinkedIn gives you an inside view of a top company and what its future looks like. During the Intern Program, individuals hone their professional skills while working on real team projects. Interns enjoy many fun social and professional events during the program that promote making lasting friendships. Other benefits include free food and beverages in the office, gym and fitness classes and relocation packages.
Internships offered at LinkedIn fall under the following categories:
Technical - On the technical side, an intern will enrich their skills, wield some of the world’s most powerful databases, attend a one-on-one with a VP, and unwind by exploring the city with your fellow interns – all in a day's work.
Business - A business intern will help advance the world’s economic opportunity, one member at a time, taking what was learned in the classroom and focusing their talents on advancing LinkedIn's mission of changing the world.
Creative - A creative internship will allow the participant to take their passion for design to help create world-class user experiences. Interns willreceive the opportunity to shape the direction of one of the fastest growing companies in the tech sphere.
Some example projects from previous interns include:
Profile redesign for LinkedIn flagship iPhone application
Conceive and design LinkedIn’s first multiformat magazine and create an accompanying promotional campaign
Create vertical sales strategies for Emerging & Core markets: Services, BIM, and Retail/CPG
