Union Pacific offers a new and innovative program called 'Interns for Interns'. They call themselves I4I. This program was created to stay competitive with other Fortune 200 companies. It offers growth and retention of interns into full-time employees. It reaches interns throughout the company by educating interns on the business, developing skill sets while enhancing work experience. These experiences are real world which include managing a budget, presentation skills, training and development.

The Components of I4I include an Advisory Board which serves to give guidance, develop leadership skills and support the I4I President and Committee Chairpersons. The committees include: Welcome , Networking, Corporate Development, Philanthropy and Communication. As interns move into full-time positions with Union Pacific, they will replace current Advisory Board members. This provides continued leadership opportunity and a succession plan.

Intern Benefits

Interns and Co-ops are eligible to participate in the Transportation Spending Account (TSA) Program to put aside pre-tax dollars to pay for expenses related to commuting, such as parking fees, meter fees, bus passes and cycling expenses.

Union Pacific is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for Interns which include providing employees who work in Union Pacific Center (UPC) the use of the Omaha Health and Fitness Center.

Service as an Intern is counted as both vesting service and credited service under the UP Pension Plan. Should an Intern become a full-time employee of Union Pacific, service as an Intern will count towards Service Awards under the Service Awards Program.

The interns could be given a monthly or hourly salary based on the length of their internship. The average pay ranges from $16-$22/per hour depending on the level of experience.
