About Sanford Health Non-Clinical Internship Program

Sanford Health, one of the largest health systems in the United States, is dedicated to the integrated delivery of health care, genomic medicine, senior care and services, global clinics, research and affordable insurance. Headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the organization includes 44 hospitals, 1,400 physicians and more than 200 Good Samaritan Society senior care locations in 26 states and nine countries. Nearly $1 billion in gifts from philanthropist Denny Sanford have transformed how Sanford Health improves the human condition.

Sanford Health offers both clinical and non-clinical internships throughout the year, providing mentoring, professional development and growth opportunities to students interested in a variety of health care careers. As the largest employer in the Dakotas Sanford Health offers exciting opportunities to gain real world experience and build useful skills to prepare students for the future.

The non-clinical side of a healthcare organization is often forgotten, but a vital part of a patient’s care.  The Non-clinical Internship Program at Sanford Health challenges this by offering a wide array of opportunities ranging from marketing to accounting to clinic administration. Due to this wide array of opportunities, specific responsibilities vary wildly but candidates should know that each experience must go through an approval process prior to posting to determine that it meets the rigor required. Most importantly, this program is a workforce development initiative with the intention of keeping top intern talent within the organization.  Since its launch in 2017, the Non-Clinical Internship Program at Sanford Health has offered over 1100+ internships and through those internships interns have contributed more than 283,000 productive hours towards Sanford Health’s initiatives.

Eligibility

All non-clinical internships are open to current college juniors, seniors and recent graduates with a record of outstanding academic achievement and leadership abilities. Each intern works 20-32 hours a week during the fall and spring session or 32-40 hours a week during the summer session.

Sessions follow the fall, spring and summer academic semesters with a maximum of 400 hours per session. Internships last on average 12 weeks. All non-clinical internships offer flexible scheduling, which will be agreed on by the intern and mentor they are paired with.  Interns must commit to completing their hours onsite, as remote work is not permitted.
