How To Apply

Prospective interns apply to a general posting category that aligns with their education and interest. When specific projects become available, students are matched from the general category posting to the individual management projects based on the management's requested education and skill level. Management then conducts interviews with the students in order to meet the student and also describe in more detail their specific project.

Intern Reviews

  • “The quality of life at the internship was amazing! Every other weekend was a three-day weekend. The work time was 40 hours per week, with a lunch break. The supervisors showed interest in my development as a researcher and guided me to become a better scientist.”
  • “I love that nobody is hounding me with my progress. The culture is calm and very understanding. The general attitude is do your work, and if you need help, do not be scared to ask questions.”
  • “INL interns get flexible hours, where you can vary your hours between days to work best for your life as agreed upon with your mentor. This encourages a healthier work-life balance and open communication. The lab also actively promotes inclusivity and diversity and supplies plenty of enrichment and professional growth workshops for interns to take.”
  • “The work culture is excellent, and employees are encouraged to maintain healthy practices and good work/life balance. I enjoy the 9-80 work schedule and the flexibility to choose which hours to work.”

Getting Hired Here

  • “The hiring process was smooth. it did take a while, but they followed up with me almost every week, letting me know they had not forgotten about me and that everything was still in the works. I understand why it would take a while because of all the security and background checks that [have] to be done.”
  • “The interview was like a nice chat where they asked what topic I was interested in. There were some technical questions on my experience with different tools, but it wasn't stressful.”
  • “I met several times with my potential mentors to discuss my interests, aptitudes, and skills in addition to ongoing projects. I feel like they valued me as an individual for what I could bring but also for what I would gain from the experience. The interview questions were applicable, and the entire process was thorough. My mentors at INL did an excellent job maintaining communication and keeping me informed throughout the process.”
  • “I am completely satisfied with the interview process because I only had to do one interview with three interviewers, and two of my interviewers became my two mentors for my internship. The application process was really simple. I received the request for an interview within two weeks of submitting the application. I received my offer letter within a month from the date of the interview.”
