Rothschild is one of the world's largest independent merchant and investment banks. Rothschild has offices worldwide. Its investment banking division provides debt advice and restructuring services, mergers and acquisitions advice, equity advice, and advice on divestitures and privatizations. In the U.S., the firm's investment banking operation collaborates with offices around the world on cross-border deals, with a special emphasis on the middle market. Its services include mergers and acquisitions advisory, private placements, restructuring and project finance for U.S. and multinational clients.
Other divisions within Rothschild cover private banking and trust, merchant banking, and corporate banking. The firm's industry groups of focus include real estate, financial institutions, consumer and retail, hotels and leisure, healthcare, mining, industrials, business services, energy and power, transport and infrastructure, and technology, media, and telecoms.
Rothschild provides insight into these divisions through summer associate internships aimed at those who are studying towards an MBA and have a minimum of three years work experience.

The classroom based training is run by the firm's external training providers and is designed to provide successful applicants with the financial concepts they will need to be successful on their team over the summer, as well as key personal skills such as communication and personal effectiveness. A good internship could lead to placements in the following year’s Associate (MBA) Program.

As far as fhe fundamental skills, the firm looks for individuals who can demonstrate good communication skills; drive and ambition; sound judgement; creativity; execution excellence; presence; teamwork; and numeracy.
