Founded in 1989, Charlesbridge Publishing is an independent publisher of books for babies, children, and young teens. Among its titles are picture books, early readers books, and middle-grade chapter books. The company operates “with a goal of creating lifelong readers and lifelong learners.” Charlesbridge’s books cover everything from history to math to nature to people and cultures to science and much more.
Charlesbridge relies on interns to do substantive work. As a result, interns gain in-depth experience with picture book publishing, from submission and production to publication. The editorial intern acts as an editorial assistant, reading and evaluating unsolicited manuscripts, writing rejection letters, and providing clerical support for the department, such as handling copyright and catalog-in-publication submissions to the Library of Congress.
Open to undergraduates (sophomore year and above), recent graduates, graduate students, and mid-career applicants.
