Volkswagen Group of America’s Internship Program targets students and recent graduates who have long term employment potential at Volkswagen Group of America and are eager to acquire practical real world experience in the automotive industry. Focused on the development of professional and technical competences as well as on-the-job-training, our Internship Program is an excellent opportunity to explore career choices early on. At Volkswagen Group of America, interns have the chance to make an impact because we challenge them and trust them to perform meaningful work.

At Volkswagen Group of America, interns can be found in almost every business unit across the organization, including Sales & After Sales, Quality, Marketing & Communications, Travel & Events, IT, Finance & Accounting, Government Relations, Strategy, Human Resources, Logistics, Engineering, and Design. The interns’ responsibilities range from projects like planning auto shows, developing a diversity marketing strategy, organizing new vehicle launches, and sketch modeling design themes, to cost and market analyses, fleet management, and vehicle test drives. Besides acquiring basic project coordination competences, interns develop their analytical capabilities and improve their presentation skills, while also benefiting from getting exposure to various levels of the organization, participating in training classes, tech talks and meetings, and having the unique opportunity to be co-authors on invention disclosures for patent applications. In addition, interns can write their Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD thesis during their internship, which allows them to relate their academic work to a real-world project with the support of our experts.

We reward our interns not only with competitive pay between $11.00/hour and $27.00/hour (dependent on education level and work location), but also with paid holidays, the lease car privilege (international interns only), relocation assistance (PhD interns only), eligibility for a discount on purchasing a VW or Audi model, travel opportunities, and social activities and events such as Intern Happy Hours, all-employee events, and free tickets to soccer games or concerts. Visa sponsorship will be provided for international interns.

Internships are located in Virginia, Michigan, California, Colorado, Tennessee, and Florida. Each location offers a unique work environment, but all of our offices share at least one common denominator of love and enthusiasm for our products.


To qualify for an internship with Volkswagen Group of America, applicants must be enrolled at a university or their graduation date cannot be more than six months prior to the internship start date. Associates, Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA and PhD students from the U.S. and around the world are welcome to apply to our openings. We offer paid part-time and full-time internships that last three to six months with the option of extending up to twelve months.

Volkswagen Group of America is looking for highly motivated and energized individuals who set ambitious goals and have a strong interest in the automotive industry. Additional requirements can vary from position to position, but often include proficiency in Microsoft Office, general vehicle knowledge, coursework related to the respective work field, and the ability to learn new subjects, concepts, processes and computer applications easily.
