Sikich has built an internship experience that provides students with real work assignments related to their major that are recognized as being valuable throughout the firm. For example, accounting interns are responsible for preparing statistical and account analysis to aid in the preparation of financial statements. They prepare various tax returns and reconcile accounting work papers, fixed asset reports and tax journal entries. The length of each internship varies, but are usually between 3-6 months depending on the needs of the business and our clients. Sikich hires interns in various locations across the country.
Interns have access to all the technical tools and resources they will need in order to succeed in their roles, and are offered flexible work arrangements to ensure they are able to balance their studies, work, and personal lives. The firm provides real time feedback and provides its interns with the opportunity to participate in performance review cycles. Continuous innovation is important to the Sikich culture and has been identified as a core value of the firm. Sikich provides interns with on-the-job training as well as other training opportunities through Sikich University, the firm's learning and development program. Various leadership and core development training that combines a blended learning approach via instructor led and within virtual environments are accessible to the firm's interns.
The firm requires interns to have a high school diploma and typically target college students in their sophomore year. Minimum age is 18 years. Field of study can vary, as Sikich hires interns in multiple different areas of the firm (e.g. accounting, technology, marketing, etc.)
Sikich looks for interns with ambition and drive for continuous success as they grow, and display qualities such as being detailed-oriented, an excellent team collaborator, communication skills, strong time management abilities, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Interns are either part-time or full-time, and hours can range from 15-40 hours per week with the potential for overtime.
The firm always wants to ensure that interns have the flexibility to balance their schoolwork and working for Sikich. It does not have an academic credit requirement, as that varies among schools. Some positions may require client visits, so it will be important for those interns to have a valid driver’s license. U.S. citizenship or a permanent U.S. work authorization is required.
