KPMG offers internship opportunities in both the winter and summer in Audit, Tax, Advisory and Business Process Groups.  The internships offer college students an array of enriching personal and professional development opportunities, including job specific training, exposure to a broad client base, the opportunity to work directly with KPMG staff and partners, and the ability to experience the culture firsthand. 

Job descriptions and responsibilities vary by practice.

Audit Intern Responsibilities:
• Execute the day-to-day activities of audit engagements of various clients including Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registrants
• Produce clear, well-structured and effective audit documentation
• Detect and communicate accounting and auditing matters to senior associates, managers and partners
• Interact with clients to help ensure the information flow from the client to the audit team is efficient
• Support the use of enabling technologies in the Audit which includes data extractions and analysis
• Identify process improvements and audit efficiencies as part of KPMG’s Audit Innovation culture

Business Tax Services Intern Responsibilities:
• Perform tax-related tasks including tax compliance and advisory services to a variety of clients including partnerships, corporations and S-corporations, from Fortune 100 to emerging businesses
• Participate in a full spectrum of assignments and receive hands-on experience in a collegial environment
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop and sustain excellent client relationships
• Keep up-to-date on current tax practices

Advisory Financial Management
• Assist clients with various aspects of Finance strategy, operational performance, and process improvement initiatives
• Assist engagement team in conducting analysis of finance process areas (e.g., financial planning & analysis, financial close and consolidation, management reporting, and operational finance) with an emphasis on developing and solutioning process, technology, data and organizational designs
• Support effective and thorough research, data gathering, and analysis across finance and accounting functional areas
• Compose logical, appropriately structured input to written deliverables and presentation materials

Advisory IT Audit and Assurance:
• Help perform data flow process mapping for client transactions and systems
• Conduct research and assist with IT Risk analysis
• Support internal team members with planning and performing tests of client’s information technology controls, including IT security and governance controls
• Learn new and emerging technologies and explore opportunities to use intelligent automation

Advisory IT Audit and Risk Enterprise:
• Demonstrate innovative ways to leverage data and technology to help clients manage risk more efficiently
• Work on teams focused on providing data driven solutions to address a variety of risk factors and identify performance improvement opportunities
• Help complete quantitative and qualitative analysis through variety of data analytic tools and techniques
• Interpret and visualize results of data analytics
• Help perform analytical reviews of key client processes and connection to enabling IT systems

Deal Advisory:
• Assist internal team members with providing mergers and acquisitions advice and assistance related to buy-side and sell-side transaction advisory engagements, through financial, technical accounting, operational, and asset based lending due diligence assistance, to Fortune 100 companies, private equity investors and commercial lenders
• Analyze target company and/or client data to identify key financial performance and operating trends and insights through rigorous financial statement analysis and applied data analytics
• Help provide accounting advisory support and research to clients, including assistance with SEC filings, divestitures and carve-out financial statements, initial public offerings, debt offerings, merger and acquisition filings for domestic and cross-border transactions, fresh-start accounting for clients emerging from bankruptcy, IFRS conversion, complex capital and financing structures, and implementation of new accounting standards including assessing their impact on deal metrics

Eligibility

The qualifications for KPMG internships vary by practice.

Audit Intern Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent program from an accredited college/university
• Must meet minimum educational requirements for CPA licensure in state of employment before beginning full-time
• Demonstrated quality service mindset and knowledge of financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation and financial reporting systems; knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
• Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and ability to navigate various computer applications, including MS Office/Excel, and aptitude to quickly learn KPMG Audit tools and applications used by our clients
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexible and adaptable team player; and resourceful in delivering high quality work
• Ability to work extra hours as needed to meet client deadlines and ability to travel and/or work onsite at client premises at times with relatively short notice

Business Tax Services Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, Master of Taxation from an accredited college/university
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science or data and analytics preferred
• Demonstrated quality service mindset, and interest in a profession in tax accounting
• Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and ability to navigate MS Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexible and adaptable team player; and resourceful in delivering high quality work
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, at times with relatively short notice

Advisory internships require the following qualifications:
• Demonstrated quality service mindset, and knowledge of data analysis techniques
• Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and ability to navigate MS Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexible and adaptable team player; and resourceful in delivering high quality work
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises up to 80 - 90 percent, at times with relatively short notice

Advisory Financial Management:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Economics from an accredited college/university

Advisory IT Audit and Assurance Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Management Information Systems, Accounting Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting or Finance with an Information Technology concentration/double major, or other IT related degree from an accredited college/university

Advisory Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, or MIS with a minor in Accounting from an accredited college university

Advisory Deal Rotation Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university. To the extent the accredited college/university does not offer a degree in Accounting, a similar business major with a concentration in Accounting is required.
• Eligibility to sit for the CPA exam is required
