Telemarketers

Outlook

Employment for telemarketers is expected to decline by 3 percent through 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. In the past, the career of telemarketer consistently ranked as a fast-growing occupation, but growth has slowed in recent years as a result of the movement of call-center jobs overseas and the implementation of the National Do Not Call Registry. The National Do Not Call Registry, a free service offered by the Federal Trade Commission since June 2003, allows consumers to add their cell phone and landline phone numbers to a do-not-call list, from which telemarketers may not call. Telemarketers with experience and a proven track record of generating sales will have the best job prospects. There is also high turnover in this field so there will be ongoing need to replace workers who leave the job for other opportunities.
