Employment for all fitness trainers and instructors is expected to grow by 13 percent, much faster than the average for all occupations, through 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Strength and conditioning coaches will be increasingly relied upon to provide athletes with the extra edge during competition. The coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact on sports and fitness, with new protocols introduced to protect people's health, such as social distancing practices. Strength and conditioning coaches will continue to be needed to help athletes maintain their strength and fitness, particularly during downtimes when matches and games are postponed or cancelled. Competition for positions will continue to be keen, as it normally is for this profession—especially at the collegiate and professional levels. Strength and conditioning coaches who are certified and who have considerable experience will have the best chances for employment.
