The median hourly wage for precision machinists was $19.49 (or $40,550 annually) in May 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The lowest 10 percent made $12.13 an hour (or $25,230 annually), and the highest 10 percent earned $29.47 per hour (or $61,290 annually). Salaries vary by industry. For example, machinists working in the aerospace industry earned an average $47,870 annually, while those working in motor vehicle parts manufacturing averaged $43,340 annually.
