Salaried editors who worked for newspaper, periodical, book, and directory publishers earned an average of $64,060 in May 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The middle 50 percent of all editors earned between $39,690 and $78,140. Salaries ranged from less than $29,230 to more than $109,760. Senior editors at large-circulation magazines average more than $125,000 a year. In addition, many editors supplement their salaried income by doing freelance work.
