Outlook

Employment for conservation scientists and foresters is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all careers through 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The outlook for land trust work currently is brighter than that for federal land and water conservation jobs. Land trusts are going strong right now, and the entire land and water conservation segment, of which land trust and preserve management is a part, is growing at a steady rate annually. The Land Trust Alliance reports that state, local, and national land trusts had conserved 47 million acres of open space as of December 31, 2010—an increase of 23 million acres since 2000.
