Informatics Nurse Specialists

The outlook is bright for informatics nurse specialists. Demand is expected to be strong in the years to come for these specialists due to the growth of electronic health record use, e-prescriptions, and other health care information technologies. Computer systems analysts in general will have good employment opportunities, about 9 percent growth through 2026, according to the Department of Labor. The health care industry is expected to have tremendous growth through 2026 also. The DOL predicts 18 percent employment growth for health care occupations, which is much faster than the average for all other occupations. This growth will be attributed to the increase in the aging population; as more people live longer lives, more health care services will be needed. Informatics nurse specialists with an advanced degree, certification, and prior work experience will have good chances of securing work.
