The U.S. Department of Labor does not provide salary information for historic preservationists, but it does report that museum technicians and conservators, who perform work often similar to that of preservationists, earned a median annual salary of $43,020 in May 2018. Salaries ranged from less than $25,430 to $74,840 or more annually. Another similar occupation is curators, who received a median annual salary of $53,780 in May 2018, with the lowest 10 percent earning $29,010 and the highest 10 percent earning $94,330 or more. Curators who worked for federal agencies earned mean annual salaries of $85,150.
