Health Educators

Unions and Associations

Health educators do not typically belong to unions, but they can join professional associations at the local, state, and national levels to obtain career support and other resources. The American Public Health Association is the leading public health organization in the United States. It publishes the American Journal of Public Health and The Nation’s Health newspaper; leads public awareness campaigns such as Get Ready and National Public Health Week; and offers information on careers and internships. The Society for Public Health Education is a membership organization for health education professionals and students in the U.S. and 25 other countries. It offers professional development opportunities, scholarships, and other resources to its members. The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing offers certification and continuing education resources.
