Unions and Associations

Some geologists may be members of the American Federation of Government Employees, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, and other unions. Major membership organizations for technicians include the Geological Society of America, Association for Women Geoscientists, American Geophysical Union, American Institute of Professional Geologists, Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Association of American State Geologists, Society for Sedimentary Geology, and the Society of Economic Geologists. The American Geosciences Institute is a nonprofit federation of geoscientific and professional associations. The U.S. Geological Survey is a federal science organization that employs geologists and other geoscientists. The National Association of State Boards of Geology develops licensing examinations for geologists.
