Earnings for forensic experts vary by employer, geographic location, and educational and skill levels. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that the median hourly wage for forensic science technicians was $27.08 in May 2015. For full-time employment, this translates into a median salary of $56,320 a year. The lowest paid 10 percent earned $16.34 per hour ($34,000 annually) and the highest paid 10 percent earned $45.39 per hour ($94,410 annually). Those working for the federal government had mean annual earnings of $100,400.
