The median hourly pay for firefighters was $22.53 in May 2015 (or $46,870 annually based on a 40-hour workweek), according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Ten percent of all firefighters earned less than $11.06 per hour (or $23,010 annually), while the top 10 percent earned more than $38.22 per hour (or $79,490 annually). The department also reports that firefighters employed by local government earned a mean hourly wage of $24.08 (or $50,090 annually); those employed by the federal government earned a mean hourly wage of $22.53 (or $49,690 annually).
