Fashion Illustrators

Outlook

Little or no change in employment is expected for fine artists through 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. For illustrators specifically working in fashion, employment will likely be dependent on the prosperity of companies and organizations that are involved with the fashion field, such as magazines, newspapers, advertising firms, and fashion houses. The outlook for these agencies is currently only fair due to industry consolidation and other factors. Despite this outlook, the popularity of American fashions around the world should create a demand for illustrators. In addition, numerous outlets for fashion, such as e-zines and retail Web sites, will create a need for illustrators. Those who have strong computer skills and experience with illustration software programs will have the best job prospects.
