Engineering Technicians

Unions and Associations

Some engineering technicians belong to unions such as the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers; the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the International Union; the United Automobile, Aircraft and Agricultural Implement Workers of America; the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers; and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace. In addition, many other organizations provide useful resources to engineering technicians. The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, SpaceTEC National Resource Center for Aerospace Technical Education, and Electronics Technicians Association International offer certification to engineering technicians. Other general organizations for engineering technicians include the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians. There are also many specialty-specific associations that provide useful resources, such as the Aerospace Industries Association and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for aerospace engineering technicians, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for electrical and electronics engineering technicians.
