Unions and Associations

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that 33 percent of electricians are members of a union or are covered under a union contract. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is the main union for electricians, but electricians are also members of the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers/Communication Workers of America; the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; the International Union, United Automobile, Aircraft and Agricultural Implement Workers of America; and United Steelworkers. Other organizations that provide useful resources and professional support to electricians include Independent Electrical Contractors, National Electrical Contractors Association, and the International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians.
