Driving School Owners and Instructors


The U.S. Department of Labor does not offer salary information for the career of driving school owners or instructors. It does note that self-enrichment teachers, a category which could include commercial driving instructors, earned a median hourly wage of $17.64 (or about $36,680 annually) in May 2015. The lowest 10 percent earned $19,050 and the top 10 percent earned $73,610. Driving instructors at public high schools who work as salaried educators have the same earnings as regular teachers. The median annual salary for secondary school teachers was $57,200. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $37,800; the highest 10 percent earned $91,190 or more.
