Earnings

Earnings for dermatologists are affected by number of years in practice, geographic region, hours worked, and the skill, personality, and professional standing of the doctor. According to the Medscape Dermatologist Compensation Report 2016, the mean annual salary of dermatologists was $381,000. Average salaries were highest ($511,000) in the North Central region (North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri), while the lowest ($348,000) were in the Southwest (Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico). The lowest-paid 10 percent of all physicians earned less than $57,820 in May 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
