Creating a profile on LinkedIn and joining customer success–related groups will help you to get noticed and stay up to date on industry developments. Using job boards and attending career fairs are other ways to learn more about potential employers and job openings

Try to obtain as much experience in lower-level customer service and customer success positions as possible, and develop domain expertise (e.g., healthcare operations, financial services, fleet management, sales management) so that you appear knowledgeable during job interviews. 

Customer success managers who perform well in their work can advance to become chief customer officers, who are responsible for customer service and success staff and initiatives for their entire organizations. Work as a CSM also provides good training for managerial and executive-level positions in sales, marketing, and training. Highly successful CSMs can eventually become CEOs of their companies. Others open their own consulting businesses.
