Copy Editors

Employment of all editors will decline by 3 percent from 2018 to 2028, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Competition for those jobs will remain intense, since so many people want to enter the field. There will be more job opportunities for copy editors in Internet publishing, versus print media, as online publishing and services continue to grow. Many companies now use social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as blogs and text messages to communicate with their audience. They may hire writers and editors to create and review content. Advertising and public relations will also provide employment opportunities. A fairly large number of positions—both full time and freelance—become available when experienced copy editors leave the business for other fields.
