Computer-Aided Design Drafters and Technicians

Employment Prospects

Employers

CAD drafters and technicians are employed in a wide variety of industries, including engineering, architecture, manufacturing, construction, communication, utilities, and the government. They work for both large and small companies throughout the United States. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that 205,190 drafters work in the United States. For some specialties, jobs may be more specific to certain locations. For example, a drafter or designer for the software industry will find the most opportunities in California's Silicon Valley, while an automotive specialist may be more successful finding jobs near Detroit, Michigan.
