Unions and Associations

Unless they work as public school art teachers, artists are not typically members of unions. There are many professional associations that provide information on education and careers in art, including the American Craft Council, International Sculpture Center, National Art Education Association, National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, National Sculpture Society, Sculptors Guild, and the Society of Illustrators. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design is an organization of schools, colleges, and universities that offer art education programs. The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent agency of the federal government that provides grants and other support to artists.
