The marketing industry experienced a downturn during the recession in the mid- to late-2000’s, but has since gained strength. More companies are requiring the services of marketing consultants for help in developing marketing strategies, forecasting sales, and developing and pricing new products. In 2016, there were nearly 198,000 marketing consultant businesses in the United States, as reported by the research group IBISWorld. Fast growth is expected in the marketing consultant industry, following five years of growth at an annual rate of 3.6 percent. This fast growth is expected due to improvements in the economy and the increasing importance of new digital channels in marketing.
