Industry Outlook

According to U.S. government projections, employment of health care practitioners is projected to increase 19 percent through 2024, adding about 2.3 million new jobs. The U.S. Department of Labor also says that many of the fastest growing occupations are concentrated in the health care industry. By 2024, employment of medical assistants is expected to grow by 23 percent, physician assistants by 30 percent, and home health aides by 38 percent. Medical record and health information technicians employment will grow by 15 percent, and physical therapist assistants by 40 percent. There may be a general perception that careers in health care require advanced education; however, most jobs require less than four years of college.
