About Enterprise Holdings, Inc.

Enterprise Holdings is in the driver's seat in the global car rental business. Through its Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car, and National Car Rental subsidiaries, the company is the largest vehicle rental firm in the world with a fleet of some 2 million passenger cars and trucks. It rents out its vehicles from more than 10,000 locations, most of which are based in airports and neighborhoods in North America, Europe, and Asia. It also operates commercial truck rental and car sales businesses, and has expanded into rideshare and commuting services. Enterprise Holdings was formed by the combination of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and its Vanguard Car Rental subsidiary (Alamo and National's former parent). It is owned by members of the founding Taylor family.

Operations

More than 75% of Enterprise Holdings' rental locations are Enterprise Rent-A-Car stores.

In addition to its primary Enterprise, Alamo, and National rental operations, the company also has business lines focused on sales (Enterprise Car Sales), commercial vehicle and luxury car rental (Enterprise Truck Rental, Enterprise Flex-E-Rent, Exotic Car Collection), ridesharing and commuting services (Enterprise CarShare, Commute with Enterprise, Zimride by Enterprise), and fleet management (Enterprise Fleet Management).

Geographic Reach

St. Louis-based Enterprise Holdings has a presence in more than 90 countries across the Americas and Europe, as well as parts of the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. The US is its largest market by far, home to about 65% of the company's rental locations.

Financial Performance

Enterprise Holdings has seen strong revenue growth over the past five years, with total sales up 35% during that time. Its 2018 revenue was $24.1 billion, up 8% from the prior year.

Strategy

As is the case for most industries these days, the "mobility" industry is changing rapidly because of technology. In an effort to remain at the forefront of these changes, Enterprise Holdings is exploring partnerships, making acquisitions, and investing in a host of travel- and mobility-related technologies.

Late in 2018 it announced a partnership with General Motors through which more than 100,000 connected vehicles (vehicles with Internet access) will be added to its fleet in 2019. Also that year Enterprise Holdings agreed to manage self-driving technology startup Voyage's fleet of autonomous cars and joined with travel technology firm Deem (which it later acquired) to help travelers to China more easily book rental services.

The company made investments in 2018 in Mobi (human-centric real-time routing), Migo (ground transportation metasearch), and Deliv (same-day delivery). Other recent investments include Quanergy (autonomous vehicle sensors) and Coolfire Solutions (Internet of Things and situational awareness platform).

Mergers and Acquisitions

In early 2019 Enterprise Holdings acquired travel technology firm Deem, in which it had previously invested. San Francisco-based Deem uses machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies in its suite of online booking and travel technology products for business travelers and other customers.

Company Background

Enterprise Holdings traces its history to the 1957 founding of Executive Leasing by Jack Taylor in St. Louis, Missouri, which was renamed Enterprise Leasing in 1969. In 2007 the Taylor family acquired Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental and two years later created Enterprise Holdings to house its three different brands.
