About Zynga

Zynga is a game developer focused on mobile and web-browser games. It was founded in 2007, right at the time that both Facebook and smartphones were becoming essential commodities, so it’s no surprise that Zynga’s success has mirrored the rise of both. Zynga’s first smash hit, FarmVille, was a Facebook staple in the early 2010s—at one point in this era, Zynga made up nearly a fifth of Facebook’s total revenue. And the company’s game offerings have only increased in recent years, now including titles like Words with Friends, Draw Something, Zynga Poker, and Merge Dragons. And more recently, Zynga has made moves to grow beyond mobile-first gaming—a deal with Lucasfilm Games will bring a new Star Wars game to the Nintendo Switch platform, its first foray into the world of console gaming.

Zynga’s San Francisco HQ, nicknamed “The Dog House” because of its dog logo, is your classic tech startup office/playground, with an arcade, basketball court, and lots of other fun perks. But the company also offers more “serious” benefits, including coverage of IVF and other fertility benefits up to $20,000. The company also emphasizes giving back, including biannual weeks of service, matching employee charitable donations, and an in-game donation program for consumers. Zynga.org, the company’s CSR wing, also sponsors “Game Design Academies” at San-Fran-local high schools, to teach kids about how creating a game works. So while the prototypical startup culture is alive and well at the Zynga office, it also stays true to its mission to bring gaming to more people.
