About CVS Health Corporation
CVS Health is at the forefront of a changing health care landscape, with a suite of capabilities and the expertise needed to drive innovations that will help shape the future of health. The company operates approximately 9,600 retail pharmacies under the CVS, Navarro and Longs Drugs brand names, more than 1,135 walk-in MinuteClinic locations, a leading pharmacy benefits manager with more than 75 million plan members, a dedicated senior pharmacy care business serving more than one million patients each year, and expanding specialty pharmacy services. Through these, the company enables people, businesses and communities to manage health in more affordable and effective ways.
CVS Health serves 5 million customers each day through its retail pharmacies, dispenses or manages 1.9 billion prescriptions annually, and has supported 28 million patient visits through MinuteClinic since its inception. Ultimately, the company's business model is focused on creating superior value for patients, payors and providers, while driving continued growth for the company and its shareholders in an evolving health care market.
CVS Health operates through two main business segments: Pharmacy Services and Retail/LTC:
Pharmacy Services, which is the company's prescription benefits management (PBM) division (also known as CVS Caremark), dispenses drugs through nearly 30 retail specialty pharmacy stores, more than 10 specialty mail order pharmacies, and four mail order dispensing pharmacies. It also operates more than 85 medical branches, most of which are ambulatory infusion sites, but also include specialist infusion and enteral service facilities. According to the firm, the capabilities of the PBM offer clients with a strong record of service and execution, competitive pricing, and unique market-based solutions to address a broad range of client concerns, such as prescription cost control. All told, the division fills nearly one billion prescriptions per year.
CVS's better-known Retail Pharmacy/LTC segment (CVS Pharmacy) today operates a network of more than 9,600 retail drugstores, 1,135 MinuteClinic locations, and online operations (CVS.com and Navarro.com). The pharmacy accounts for 72% of all retail revenue, with the job of the retail front store to attract pharmacy patients and drive margin. CVS Pharmacy leads the prescription drug market, filling more than one in every five prescriptions in the United States. In 2015, CVS Health completed its acquisition of Target’s 1660 pharmacies and nearly 80 clinics, which CVS Health is now operating as a store within a store format. With approximately 100 million prescriptions filled each year and its clinics logging 430,000 patient visits annually, the Target acquisition demonstrates how the company is increasing its footprint to deliver greater patient access and drive continued growth.
CVS Pharmacy stores are located in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Brazil, and Puerto Rico. The company also operates pharmacies under the Navarro brand in Florida and the Longs Drugs brand in California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Arizona. In an effort to increase community-based access to high-quality, cost-effective care, CVS Health operates MinuteClinics in 1,135 locations across the United States, with more than 50% of the U.S. population within 10 miles of a walk-in facility.
