About American Eagle Outfitters

American Eagle Outfitters, commonly known as American Eagle, has been a fixture in youth fashion for nearly 50 years. The first store opened its doors in Novi, Michigan, in 1977. In its early days, American Eagle was a brand under the company Retail Ventures Inc., but in 1990, Schottenstein Stores Corp. purchased American Eagle and began selling AE private label products. The company was highly successful, and just four years later made its public debut on the New York Stock Exchange with symbol AEOS. In 2006, American Eagle’s second brand Aerie officially launched. Aerie aimed to offer young women a safe and welcoming space to buy underwear and bras that didn’t just fit them, but made them feel confident. Both brands have always aimed to design and offer clothing that is classic yet trendy and helps young people feel cool and confident.

Today, American Eagle Outfitters has over 1,000 stores in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Hong Kong. It ships to 81 countries worldwide, and both American Eagle and Aerie apparel are available in over 200 international locations operating with licenses in 25 countries. The AEO New York Design Center, which opened in 2001, serves as the company’s innovation HQ. Here, the beloved American Eagle fashion is designed and created.

American Eagle is a leading company in the 15-to-25-year-old lifestyle retail market, and it has been since its first store opened nearly half a century ago. The company has remained at the top of its game because of its mission to not just follow trends, but design casual, classic clothing that radiates confidence on the wearer. The company has never been interested in cranking out clothing to match up with the latest trend, but create lines and products that are not only fashionable, but also give the customer a product that they can wear for years to come.
