About Sanofi US Services Inc.

Sanofi US Services is a US subsidiary of global drugmaker Sanofi. The company develops, manufactures, and markets small-molecule and injectable pharmaceutical products for a range of ailments. Its principal therapeutic areas include cardiovascular and metabolic treatments. Some of its key products include top-selling injectable insulin Lantus; diabetes drugs Toujeo, Apidra, and Amaryl; cholesterol drug Praluent; atrial fibrillation drug Multaq; thrombosis treatment Lovenox; and blood thinner Plavix. Sanofi US operates manufacturing, packaging, distribution, and research facilities and markets its parent's products in the US through its field sales professionals.

Financial Performance

Sanofi US is a part of parent Sanofi's Pharmaceuticals segment, which in 2018 accounted for more than 70% of Sanofi's revenue (or about $29 billion).

The US market, which also includes sister companies such as Genzyme and Sanofi Pasteur Inc., accounts for more than 30% of Sanofi's sales.

Sanofi US handles the traditional pharmaceuticals business of France-based parent Sanofi in the US market, covering cardiovascular, diabetes, and established pharmaceuticals. It works alongside the US location of Sanofi's vaccines business, sister company Sanofi Pasteur Inc., and Sanofi's biotech specialty drug (multiple sclerosis and rare disease) unit Genzyme, which is headquartered in the US. The companies work together to promote and increase sales of Sanofi's products and improve efficiencies in the US operating structure.

Several key drugs sold by Sanofi US are facing sales erosion due to generic competition, including Lantus, Lovenox, Renagel (for dialysis patients), and Ambien (sleep aid). To counteract lost sales from generic competition, the organization works to develop and sell new patent-protected medicines.

Company Background

Parent Sanofi added a consumer health products maker, Chattem, to its US organization in late 2009. In 2011 parent Sanofi established an even deeper footprint in the US market through the $20 billion acquisition of biotech firm Genzyme.

Also in 2011 Sanofi changed its name from Sanofi-Aventis to simply Sanofi, and Sanofi-Aventis US began operating as Sanofi US Services.
