About Beckman Coulter, Inc.
A science whiz, Beckman Coulter never saw a test it didn't love. The company makes diagnostic testing systems and supplies for the biomedical sector. Its products are used in hospitals and other critical care sites globally to help suss out diseases and monitor their progression. Beckman Coulter also provides in-vitro diagnostic systems and products for the reproductive health market (such as prenatal screening tests). With a history going back to the 1930s, Beckman Coulter is part of the Diagnostics segment of industrial automation firm
Danaher's Diagnostics segment provides analytical instruments, reagents, and consumables, as well as software and services for critical care settings. In addition to the Beckman Coulter brand, it sells products under the Aperio, Cepheid, Hemocue, Iris, Leica Biosystems, Mammatome, Radiometer, and Surgicpath brands.
Over the years, Beckman Coulter has installed more than 275,000 of its clinical diagnostic systems around the world. In addition to diagnosing diseases and medical conditions, the clinical systems are used to make decisions on how to treat a patient and to monitor the patient's treatment responses. Health care products range from single-use kits used in physician offices to high-volume laboratory processing systems for urine, blood, cellular, and molecular samples.
Beckman Coulter is part of Danaher's Diagnostics segment. That segment's revenue increased 16% to $5.8 billion (32% of Danaher's total revenue) in 2017.
Beckman Coulter works to stay ahead of the competition by researching and developing new and improved, cost-effective systems that perform high volumes of tests for its health care clients. Recently launched products include next-generation software supporting its DxH 500 hematology systems, an assay for detecting estradiol levels, and the FormaPure reagent kits for extracting nucleic acid from challenging tissues.
The company operates globally. It is seeing some of its fastest growth in India and South Asia, where the diagnostics field is expanding markedly. It has introduced products suitable for all sizes of pathology labs, making its offerings affordable and available to smaller metropolitan facilities.
Beckman Coulter is expanding its site in County Clare, Ireland, where development, manufacturing, and support of reagents are carried out.
