About American Cancer Society, Inc.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) seeks to end cancer suffering. The not-for-profit organization is staffed by professionals and millions of volunteers at 250 regional offices. ACS is a source of private cancer-research funds in the US. The company invested $5 billion in research since 1946. In addition to research, the ACS supports detection, treatment, and education programs. The organization encourages prevention efforts through its The Great American Smokeout campaign and Global Relay For Life. Patient services include emotional support, transportation to and from treatment, and it assists caregivers as well as children.

Operations

The ACS comprises the National Home Office which is responsible for overall strategic planning; corporate support services such as human resources, financial management, IT, etc.; development and implementation of global and nationwide endeavors such as its groundbreaking research program. It has a presence in more than 5,000 communities.

Programs and services include breast cancer support, TLC hair loss & mastectomy products, Hope Lodge Lodging (a free place to stay), rides to treatment and online support communities

Geographic Reach

Headquartered in Atlanta, ACS has presence throughout the US and Puerto Rico. It has more than five geographic regions with 250 Regional offices.

Strategy

The American Cancer Society couldn't do what it does without the support of its partners. The organization partners with companies for funding. Among its partners are Avon, Walmart, Delta, and Boeing, to name a few.

In July 2020, AstraZeneca, a longtime supporter of the mission of the American Cancer Society (ACS), continues a legacy of commitment in the fight against cancer with a $489,000 contribution. As cancer patients continue to grapple with the effects of COVID-19, this generous donation will support ACS' National Cancer Information Center and Hope Lodge programs. This generous support comes at a particularly challenging time and will help the organization continue to provide impactful services to cancer patients and caregivers, which is at the heart of its mission.
