About Cox Communications, Inc.

Cox Communications carries the full complement of cable capacity. The company provides basic cable service to more than 6 million customers, including about 3 million digital cable subscribers and 3.5 million Internet access subscribers in about 20 states, making it one the largest US cable companies. Cox also provides telephone service as a competitive local-exchange carrier (CLEC). In addition, Cox offers voice and data communications services to businesses (Cox Business) and provides national and local advertising services (Cox Media). It is a subsidiary of media conglomerate Cox Enterprises.

Using its cable networks, the company offers local phone service and resells long-distance under the Cox Digital Telephone brand. Its Cox Business segment tackles the enterprise communications market and provides services through dedicated fiber-optic and related hybrid networks. The company's Cox Media unit focuses on delivering advertising sales across its video systems. It also has investments in several telecom and technology companies, including a video-on-demand services joint venture with Comcast and Time Warner called iN DEMAND.

Geographic Reach

From its based in Atlanta, Georgia, Cox has operations in the southeast, central, southwest, and northeast regions of the US.

Financial Performance

Cox Communications reported $10.4 billion in revenue in 2014.

Cox Communications has been quiet as the rest of the cable industry has been roiled by mergers and acquisitions in 2015. Whether it will have the resources from its privately held parent Cox Enterprises to stack up against its ever-growing competitors remains to be seen. It has been unaffected by the buying binge that has united telecoms big and small.

The company did step up in San Diego becoming to first to offer high-speed Internet service to residential customers. Cox also offers Gigabit services to customers in parts of Irvine, California, Omaha, Nebraska, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and New Orleans.
