McGladrey LLP is the largest U.S. assurance, tax and consulting firm focused on the middle market, with more than 6,700 employees in 75 cities nationwide. Its international endeavors are enhanced by its membership in RSM International, a network of independent accounting and consulting firms in 100 countries that employs more than 32,500 people. The McGladrey name goes back several decades-to 1926 when Ira B. McGladrey opened an accounting practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1984, McGladrey combined forces with A.M. Pullen & Company, a firm with headquarters in South Carolina and dozens of offices in the Southeast. The firm was renamed McGladrey & Pullen in 1987. Just over 10 years later, the firm sold its non-attest assets to H&R Block. But 12 years after that, in 2011, these assets (which operated under the name RSM McGladrey Inc.) were repurchased by McGladrey & Pullen. Also in 2011, Joe Adams was named managing partner and CEO. A year later, in 2012, the firm changed its name to McGladrey LLP.
The firm operates three main practice areas in its consulting practice: financial advisory, risk advisory and technology. The first of these—financial advisory—helps client organizations to understand "options, opportunities and exposures" related to finance when making major business decisions such as mergers and acquisitions, performance improvement initiatives or even dealing with litigation and disputes.
McGladrey's risk advisory services include expertise on dealing with risk in everything from government regulation to IT and security concerns. Finally, its technology practice covers aspects related to business success such as tech strategy, project management, business process outsourcing and technology risk management.
