Except for the name partners, most lawyers and staff are congenial and supportive. Good exposure to representation of Fortune 500 secured creditors against defaulting debtors.
Downers
The name partners are absolutely horrible, demeaning, and short-sighted employers who "rule" through bullying and verbal abuse. The other, nonequity partners are helpless in this regard. No support for an associate to develop his/her practice area(s) or to learn marketing and rainmaking skills. Billable hour expectations are about average, but salaries are substantially below market for a mid-size firm and bonuses are haphazard and dismal. Name partners say they believe in working as a "team" but what they really mean is that they routinely will throw associates under the bus to cover up for their own legal, professional and/or personal shortcomings.
Advice to Candidates
Seek employment elsewhere!! If you are truly a glutton for emotional abuse, maybe apply to a firm that at least will pay you a BigLaw salary.
