About Winstead PC

Headquartered in Dallas, Winstead PC has a strong presence in the Lone Star state—with six offices in Texas—and also has offices in New York and North Carolina. The firm has strong corporate and litigation practices, spanning industries from construction to energy to financial services to health care to investment management to technology—and more.

Formed on a Teammate Mentality

In 1973, a trio of attorneys formed Winstead, McGuire & Sechrest in Dallas, TX. Their first big break seemed to be acquiring Mercantile National Bank as an early client—until Michael Dell sought representation to go public with this obscure little computer company he’d founded. The firm has only grown since.

Real Estate and Beyond

Winstead is a Texas leader and takes special pride in its clients who return case after case or deal after deal. Among its strengths is its real estate practice, which is among the top ranked in Vault's Best Law Firms for Real Estate Law. The firm’s real estate practice services a range of clients, including real estate companies, lenders, and investors across a broad spectrum of industries. Projects have included the financing, development, construction, and operation of major sports stadiums, retail centers, and airport facilities. Winstead’s real estate prowess is further strengthened by the firm’s strong complementary practice groups, including construction, leasing/asset management, and entitlement/land use.

To be sure, the firm’s expertise extends far beyond real estate. Winstead is also known for its robust business divorce practice group, which runs a website serving as a resource for Texas companies’ majority owners and minority investors. Winstead also has a top reputation in the environmental industry, where it represents clients on regulatory issues; transactions like environmental disclosures, wetlands development, and liability risks; litigation including administrative and civil enforcement proceedings; and water law. And true to its Texas roots, the firm has a powerhouse energy (oil & gas) practice group that has navigated clients through multiple billion-dollar deals.

A Healthy Dose of Pro Bono

Pro bono is an important aspect of practice at Winstead. Among its long list of pro bono initiatives is its partnership with WorkSpaces—an organization that assists health care startups—to host office hours providing legal counsel to emerging health care businesses in Austin.
