About Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP
Headquartered in Cincinnati, Taft Stettinius & Hollister is a large firm with around 600 lawyers working in 11 domestic offices across the Midwest and Arizona. The firm operates in just about every practice area, including business and finance, business restructurings, environmental, health and life sciences, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, private client, real estate, and tax, among many others.
19th Century Origins
Taft traces its roots back to 1885, when Judge William Worthington and Edward W. Strong founded Worthington & Strong. A few years and a name change later, John L. Stettinius and John B. Hollister joined the firm’s ranks. In 1924, a year after Worthington’s death, former President William Howard Taft’s sons joined the firm, and Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP was born. Within a couple of decades, the firm made a name for itself with groundbreaking work—most prominently the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947.
The firm has four main practice departments: employment and labor relations, litigation, real estate, and transactional. The firm’s transactional lawyers advise on a range of areas, including capital markets, corporate governance, environmental law, IP, M&A, private equity, venture capital, and more. The firm’s litigators stay busy, working across dozens of subpractices, such as class action, creditors rights, ERISA, energy, IP, pharmaceuticals, securities, and white collar.
Taft’s Employment Law group has been recognized by such publications as Best Lawyers, Chambers, and Super Lawyers. Matters include employment litigation, regulatory and compliance issues, workplace safety and health, immigration matters, and benefits.
