About Stoel Rives LLP
As a super-regional U.S. law firm, Stoel Rives has become a leader in corporate, construction, employment, energy, environmental, natural resources, timber, and business litigation. The firm is also the largest in the state of Oregon, where it was founded over 100 years ago.
Growing Up in Portlandia—And Beyond
Since its beginning as a firm founded by Pacific Northwest railroad lawyers in 1907, Stoel Rives LLP has grown beyond its Northwest roots, to include offices in six other states (Alaska, California, Idaho, Minnesota, Utah and Washington State) plus the District of Columbia. The firm opened its Washington, D.C. office in early 2013, with an initial focus on energy and tax matters. Stoel Rives has expanded its California offices to four locations, and in 2012, the firm moved its San Diego office to a larger space to accommodate growth. The Anchorage office opened in 2008 and has also grown; attorneys there represent businesses in the natural resources field, Native corporations and provide other corporate, tax and litigation services.
Today, Stoel Rives attorneys serve as counsel for companies ranging from Fortune 100 size to start-ups, located throughout the nation and in several foreign countries. Well-known corporate clients have recently included McDonald's, Monsanto, eBay, E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Johnson & Johnson, Chevron USA, Harry and David, University of Utah Research Foundation, and Multnomah County. The firm has frequently ranked among the top firms on the BTI Consulting Group's list of firms with the best client service nationwide.
Natural and Legal Resources
The full-service firm boasts strong practices in corporate, energy, environmental, intellectual property, labor and employment, employee benefits, land use and construction, litigation, natural resources, renewable energy, product liability, food and beverage, agribusiness, health care and technology. The firm publishes a series of legal handbooks on energy law issues and beverage law. Stoel Rives founded and sponsors the annual Innovation Awards in Utah and Idaho to recognize local companies using cutting-edge technologies and practices. The firm has a team of active bloggers, and the firm's Renewable + Law blog, World of Employment blog and LLC Law Monitor blog have received widespread attention. The firm also maintains an award-winning Twitter account (@stoelrives), one of the most followed law firm accounts globally.
Stoel Rives is not short on accolades. The firm achieved 35 prestigious national tier rankings in the 2019 U.S. News–Best Lawyers ''Best Law Firms'' survey.
