About Stoel Rives LLP
Headquartered in Portland, Stoel Rives LLP is a full-service corporate and litigation firm. The firm represents clients in the areas of regulatory and compliance matters and corporate, labor and employment, intellectual property, land use, and real estate development and construction law.
Growing Up in Portlandia—And Beyond
Since its founding by Pacific Northwest railroad lawyers in 1907, Stoel Rives has grown beyond its Northwest roots to include offices in Alaska, California, Idaho, Minnesota, Utah, and Washington—plus the District of Columbia. The firm’s Washington, DC, office is the newest addition to the lineup and was opened with the intention of focusing on energy and tax matters.
Stoel Rives is not short on accolades. The firm has been recognized by the likes of Chambers USA, U.S. News–Best Lawyers, Benchmark Litigation, and Portland Business Journal.
Western Energy
Stoel Rives represents clients in deals and disputes that reach the multi-million and billion-dollar stratosphere. The firm’s attorneys serve as counsel for companies ranging from Fortune 100s to startups located throughout the nation and in several foreign countries. As part of its expansive energy practice, the firm has represented oil and gas clients, including ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, and BP. The group’s energy prowess goes far beyond oil and gas, however, and into areas like renewable energy, utilities, corporate and industrial energy management, energy transmission, ports, and independent power producers.
With significant experience in agribusiness and beverage law, Stoel Rives counsels clients on the full range of issues that arise in these industries—from regulations to financing to IP disputes. The firm has high-profile experience in this area, such as representing Monsanto in a multidistrict litigation regarding genetically modified wheat; representing U.S. Premium Beef in numerous multimillion-dollar deals, including the sale of ownership interests and an acquisition; and advising one of the largest brewing companies in the U.S. on licensing and compliance issues specific to the Pacific Northwest.
A Wealth of Information
Attorneys at Stoel Rives are also quite prolific, pumping out nine different industry- and practice-specific blogs. A few examples from the firm’s blog collection include World of Employment, which provides insight and commentary on labor and employment law; Ahead of Schedule, which focuses on development, design, and construction; Health Law Insider, which examines the health care industry; and Mineral Law Blog, which keeps its readers “up to date on oil, gas, pipeline and mining industries.”
