About Squire Patton Boggs

Squire Patton Boggs is a truly global law firm, spanning 47 offices across 20 countries on five continents. A multi-disciplinary team of more than 1,500 lawyers support a diverse mix of clients, ranging from Fortune 100 and FTSE 100 corporations to emerging companies and from individuals to local and national governments.

A Tale of Mergers

In the late 1800s, Squire Sanders was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, while AV Hammond opened shop in Bradford, England. Organic growth on both sides of the Atlantic firmly established these firms as forces to be reckoned with over the years. In 2011, the two firms joined, creating a firm with a solid presence in the U.K. and Western Europe. Three short years later, DC-lobbying powerhouse Patton Boggs came on board, creating Squire Patton Boggs. Since then, the firm has been a fixture on Law360’s annual ranking of firms with the largest international presence and cross-border experience.

Political Experience? Check. Innovative Practices? Check.

With a strong global reach, Squire Patton Boggs advises clients in a number of areas, including antitrust, business immigration, corporate matters, energy, environmental law, financial services, insurance, IP, international trade, labor and employment, litigation, public policy, real estate, restructuring, tax, and white collar, among others.

Squire Patton Boggs is home to a number of former policy makers, lobbyists, and politicians. The firm’s Public Policy practice is co-chaired by big names from both sides of the aisle: former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R) and former Senate Chief Deputy Whip John Breaux (D). The practice boasts a number of Capitol Hill veterans including: former U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater; former U.S. House members Joe Crowley (D-NY), Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Jack Kingston (R-GA); former UK Ambassador Matthew Kirk; former Majority Staff Director of the House Ways and Means Committee David Stewart; Jack Deschauer, former Director of Senate Affairs for the Secretary of Defense; Al Cardenas, former Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida; Samuel Adcock, former Legislative Director for then Senator Trent Lott; and Frank Wisner, former ambassador to Zambia, Egypt, the Philippines, and India.

Another focus at the firm is in emerging areas of the law, including autonomous driving, FinTech, and digital currency/blockchain technology. The firm has made substantial strides in developing its cybersecurity and data privacy capabilities, including adding the former Federal CIO for the U.S. Government and a former federal prosecutor in the Computer Crime & IP Section at the DOJ. Global teams, and a series of local network connections have been strategically assembled to offer in-depth market knowledge and experience in Africa, Germany, India, Italy, Latin America, and the Ukraine.

Jot That Down

Squire Patton Boggs doesn’t merely walk the lawyer walk—it writes about it too. The firm pens 23 different blogs, ranging in topic from IP and global supply chain to DC legal happenings and legal issues in Latin American to anticorruption and sports law. The blogs are updated frequently, with multiple posts often appearing on the firm’s site in one day.
